Why I am in Junior League- Elizabeth Phillips
We asked President Elizabeth Phillips why she is a member of the Junior League of Harlingen. Here's what she had to say:
"My heart is in serving others. I grew up in a home where service above self was taught by example, where volunteerism was a way of life. My parents gave their time to the church, fellow 4Hers, public utilities boards, their students and our neighbors. Everything they did was bigger than themselves, bigger than our family. I volunteer to set that example for my son.
I want my son to see me making others a priority. I want him to see his mom learn new skills like roofing at JLH Women's Build. I want him to see me making the time to improve the health of the children in our community at KidFit. I want him to see that not every child knows where their next meal is coming from or if they'll have a winter coat, but that something can be done about it.
I want him to know that the time I spend away from him is not for lost, but is what we should all do to make this community a better place. I want him to have the heart of a volunteer. And I want him to learn it from me."
